Summer Programs

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in our state, summer programs are cancelled for 2020. We are, however, planning on returning summer of 2021.

Science Academy

Science Academy is an exciting five-day summer camp that equips students interested in science careers. The camp provides numerous hands-on activities in a university laboratory from a variety of scientific disciplines (molecular biology, human physiology, exercise science and forensic science), visits to numerous local science-related businesses (Rutherford Regional Hospital, Cohesion Phenomics DNA lab and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Forensics Department) as well as interactions with various university departments (nursing, exercise science, university police, and admissions). Students interested in pursuing a degree or career in science are encouraged to apply to this camp. This camp costs approximately $400 per student, but due to a generous grant from the Stonecutter Foundation, students only pay $50.

Math Academy

Gardner-Webb University is excited to offer Math Academy for high school students of Rutherford County who have completed Precalculus. The Math Academy will be a five-day event with emphasis on the basics of statistical study and finance. Students will create projects related to both statistical studies and finance that will be presented on Friday afternoon. The Camp, valued at $200.00 per participant, is $25.00, thanks to a generous donation from Stonecutter.

Computer Science Summer Camp

Students attending the Stonecutter Foundation Computer Science Camp will investigate the fascinating world of computer science. We will start from the beginning, learning the basics of computer science, and then delve into the specifics of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, social networking, mobile networking, and big data. The Camp will also cover basic programming using Alice, an innovative 3D programming environment used to create animation, play interactive games, and produce video to be shared on the Web. No computer science experience is required to attend this Camp. The Camp, valued at $200 per participant, is only $25 per participant thanks to a generous donation by the Stonecutter Foundation. The cost covers all materials, a t-shirt, lunch every day, and field trips. Space is limited to 12 students.
