news-category: Athletics GWU Men’s Basketball Announces Competitive 2024-25 Slate By Office of University Communications On October 4, 2024 Runnin’ Bulldogs Play 11 Home Games and Face a 16-Game Big South Conference Schedule BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—The Gardner-Webb University men’s basketball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. This year’s slate is comprised of 29 games, including 11 games within the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena. The Big South Conference Schedule features a 16-game round-robin format, with return trips against each conference opponent throughout the season. “I am really looking forward to coaching this team,” said head coach Jeremy Luther. “We had an excellent summer and even better fall while getting ready for the upcoming season. I love our schedule, especially the non-conference portion as it prepares us for the Big South Conference slate. We will be tested early and often, but I feel this will be a very special year for Gardner-Webb basketball.” Gardner-Webb will open the season with three straight road contests beginning on Monday, Nov. 4, traveling to face the Volunteers of Tennessee. The Runnin’ Bulldogs will then take on NC Central on Friday, Nov. 8, before a trip up North matches GWU with Power 5 opponent Pittsburgh on Monday, Nov. 11. Making its home debut, Gardner-Webb will welcome the Phoenix of Elon University to Boiling Springs on Saturday, Nov. 16, but will quickly take back to the road, making a stop on Nov. 19 in the Queen City of Charlotte, N.C., while facing the 49ers. GWU will then travel to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge where the ‘Dawgs will meet Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and an opponent to be determined on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Upon returning to the states, Gardner-Webb will have road contests with Belmont on Friday, Nov. 29 and Wofford on Wednesday, Dec. 4. A rematch with NC Central will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, this time at home for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, followed by a home contest with Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday, Dec. 14. A pair of road matchups with Georgia Southern (Dec. 17) and East Carolina (Dec. 21) will wrap up the non-conference portion of the GWU schedule as the Runnin’ Bulldogs prepare for Big South action beginning with a trip to Charleston, S.C. to take on the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern on Thursday, Jan. 2. The remainder of the season includes: Jan. 4 – vs. Presbyterian, LYCC Jan. 8 – vs. Winthrop, LYCC Jan. 11 – at High Point Jan. 15 – at Radford Jan. 18 – vs. USC Upstate, LYCC Jan. 22 – vs. UNC-Asheville, LYCC Jan. 29 – vs. Longwood, LYCC Feb. 1 – at Winthrop Feb. 5 – at UNC-Ashville Feb. 8 – vs. Charleston Southern, LYCC Feb. 15 – at USC Upstate Feb. 19 – at Longwood Feb. 22 – vs. High Point, LYCC Feb. 26 – vs. Radford, LYCC March 1 – at Presbyterian This year’s Big South Tournament will be held March 5-9 at the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
