Home / People / Dr. Teresa Phillips Dr. Teresa Phillips Professor of Spanish Education B.A., M.A., Ph.D. University of Kentucky Biography Dr. Phillips earned her Masters of Arts and her Women’s Studies Certificate from the University of Kentucky in 1998. Dr. Phillips’s PhD thesis, “Sex and the Lettered City: Female Eroticism and Subjectivity in the Poetry of Eunice Odio and Ana Istarú” was defended successfully in 2010, also at the University of Kentucky. The work focuses on the interrelationship between Angel Rama’s concept of the ciudad letrada and female eroticism and subjectivity. Additionally, Dr. Phillips has directed the Study Abroad program in Costa Rica at GWU since 2001. Additionally, she spearheaded the development and implementation of the Hispanic Film course now taught for Spanish majors at GWU. Apart from her interest in teaching and research on women writers, she also strives to be physically fit with zumba, body pump, and kickboxing. The rest of her free time is filled with reading novels, writing, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and treasure hunting in thrift stores.
