Designed for novice to veteran educators, this course will increase understanding of dyslexia and dysgraphia. Many myths need to be dispelled and new procedures to address these old age concerns. The awareness will increase public understanding of dyslexia and dysgraphia and reduce stigma and misconceptions. Completion of the program results in a certificate of completion and 5 Gardner-Webb continuing education credits are earned.

Instructor Bio

Dr. AnITA D. SANDERS 

Anita D. Sanders has experience at the university, community college, school and district level as a trained Dyslexia Delegate, an administrator, PDS Coordinator, Education Consultant,  DPI Consultant, Parent Facilitator and classroom educator.  She has implemented various programs related to improving the overall school environment including (but not limited to) Reading Research to Classroom Practice:  Every Reader Counts, Every Minute Matters Trainer Quality Matters (Applying the QM Rubric), Reading Foundations Level I and II and TOI, Math Foundations,   Cooperative Learning, Effective Schools, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Quest for Adolescence Training, Mastery Learning, Exceptional Children’s Programs, Management and Leadership Development, Critical Thinking, TPAI Training, How to Handle Difficult People, Four Block Reading Curriculum Alignment, and National Board Facilitator’s Training. 

Guest Speaker Bio

Candi Sellers 

A wife, educator, Academic Language Therapist-Qualified Instructor, Orton-Gillingham Accredited Training Fellow, parent of two wonderful children (one neurodivergent learner), and advocate for students of all ages. Candi Sellers is a NC licensed teacher and holds several certifications as a dyslexia specialist. Candi Sellers, President of the International Dyslexia Association – North Carolina Branch and founder of the Instructional Hub. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach. Orton-Gillingham has been proven to increase reading and writing scores for students who struggle with dyslexia and dysgraphia concerns.
