Operations provides comprehensive services at Gardner-Webb University for academic, administrative, residential, and recreational facilities as well as grounds care for 200 acres. Operations support services are divided among six strategic departments:
Our Environmental and Occupational Safety Department oversees all University operations and events as it relates to federal, state and local guidelines applicable to environment and safety. This department is responsible for all OSHA training and regulations as well as ensuring compliance with federal waste regulations.
Gardner-Webb University encourages all faculty, staff and students to participate in our campus recycling programs and to be aware of our environment and the impact each individual has in preserving our natural resources for future generations.
Our mission is to assist in fulfillment of the mission of Gardner-Webb University by being a resource for students, staff and faculty in providing professional and effective event production and support for all University sanctioned events, through equipment and personnel. To provide service, support, and maintenance for auxiliary fixtures while creating great relationships.
Our vision is to maintain and create lasting relationships with students, staff, and faculty through the continuous improvement of our services provided.
The Grounds Department currently maintains 200 acres on our main campus in Boiling Springs, NC. The purpose of the department is to do all general maintenance concerning the grounds on and around campus. Our duties include but are not limited to: mowing, trimming, mulching, planting, and pruning. We also maintain 23 acres of athletic turf for our game fields and practice facilities. Also, our department has been heavily involved in the designing and installation of new and renovated landscapes around campus. We currently have 6 full time employees on our staff with 1 student worker.
The University Housekeeping Department is committed to providing the University workplaces with a healthy and safe environment for staff, students, and visitors. While Recognizing that a well kept workplace minimizes the probability of accidental injury to people and damage to property.
The University Maintenance Department is committed to providing the highest quality service we can for all the staff, students and visitors to Gardner-Webb. Our technicians provide services for the maintenance needs to the Boiling Springs campus to cover maintenance items including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, safety, sewer, roofing and other approved projects.

This structure ensures Operations’ ability to provide quality support to the University. Operations has offices at two primary locations, both of which are located on South Main Street.
Single-Stream Recycling containers has been available in individual office areas with trash cans available in common areas since Spring 2014.
Single-Stream recycling allows recyclables to be collected in the same container for ease and convenience.

Gardner-Webb is in the process of replacing all fluorescence bulbs with energy efficient and environmentally friendly bulbs that do not contain mercury. The ballast and bulbs are being recycled according to EPA regulations. Please contact Operations (704) 406-4330 for burned out bulbs in your area.
Computers, printers, and media equipment can be recycled by requesting a work order for pick up via Operations (704) 406-4330.
Confidential documents can be recycled through a local vendor, ProShred. ProShred will be make quarterly visits to campus and will be available at designated times and locations.
The housekeeping department is using green certified cleaning products. Switching from traditional cleaning products to biodegradable, low toxicity or otherwise less harmful products can drastically improve the environmental profile of routine cleaning activities without sacrificing cleaning effectiveness.
RCRA is the resource conservation and recovery act. This law was enacted in 1976 to put regulations on the handling and disposal of different types of waste. The primary goal of RCRA is to protect human health and the environment from the hazards of improper waste management. Gardner-Webb is committed to comply with this law.

All staff and students are responsible for keeping their own work areas neat and tidy.
The housekeeping staff will remove all office and campus trash daily. Floors are kept clear of objects, and substances which could cause slips, trips, or falls.
