Gardner-Webb’s Dr. Robert Prickett Featured on National Podcast, The EdUp Experience

College of Arts and Sciences Professor and Dean Discusses AI and Academic Integrity

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.—Professor and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Robert Prickett is featured on a national podcast, The EdUp Experience, as part of its Academic Integrity Series. Sponsored by Pangram Labs, the episode is hosted by Elvin Freytes and Bradley Emi, the co-founder and CTO of Pangram Labs, a company that develops AI detection tools.

Prickett discusses the topic, “Why Teaching With AI—Not Against It—Is the Future of Academic Integrity.” One of the questions the hosts asked was: “How does Prickett define academic integrity and its connection to Gardner-Webb’s Christian values?”

“Academic integrity—the commitment, as I see it, to honesty, truth, and responsible scholarly work—deeply aligns with our Gardner-Webb values by reflecting God’s character of truth and transforming education into sacred stewardship rather than mere personal achievement,” Prickett explained. “When students commit to academic integrity, they acknowledge their education as preparation for meaningful contribution to both divine purpose and human flourishing (aka GWU motto), where each responsible academic effort becomes an act of worship and service.”

Other topics include:

  • Faculty strategies for incorporating AI as a learning tool rather than policing its use.
  • Creating process-focused assignments that work with rather than against AI tools.
  • Addressing equity issues in AI tool access across student populations.
  • The importance of maintaining the human element and critical thinking in a world with AI.
  • The value of liberal arts education in developing students’ critical evaluation of AI outputs.
