The chart below provides licensure information for Gardner-Webb University’s Physician Assistant program:

The chart indicates those states where the Gardner-Webb curriculum fully meets State educational requirements for medial licensure, where the curriculum does not meet the criteria, and where additional training/education may be required. AlabamaThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies meets the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in Alabama.
AlaskaThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in Alaska.  Additional opioid education is required by the state in the form of one of the following: (1) a 2-hour education course that is NCCPA-approved education, or (2) Category I of AMA-approved education, or (3) Category 1 or 2 of AOA-approved education plus current DEA Registration.

MassachusettsThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in Massachusetts.  Additional training is required by the state in the following: (1) pain management and opioid use/abuse/addiction, (2) domestic and sexual violence training, and (3)  training and education in the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with cognitive impairments, including, but not limited to, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
MichiganThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in Michigan.  Additional training is required by the state in the following:  (1) one-time training in opioids and controlled substances awareness established by the Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substances Administrative Rules, R 338.3135, and (2) training to identify victims of human trafficking is required for initial licensure that meets the standards of Administrative Rule 338.6103.

NevadaThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in Nevada.  Additional requirements by the state include: (1) Proof of 4-hours bioterrorism AMA Category 1 continuing medical education (CME) relating to the medical consequences of an act of terrorism that involves the use of a weapon of mass destruction, and (2) Proof of 2 hours AMA Category 1 continuing medical education (CME) in clinically-based suicide prevention and awareness.
New HampshireThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies meets the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in New Hampshire.
New JerseyThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies meets the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in New Jersey.
New MexicoThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies meets the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in New Mexico.
New YorkThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in New York .  Additional requirements by the state include: (1) Completion of additional approved coursework or training appropriate to the professional’s practice in infection control and barrier precautions, including engineering and work practice controls, to prevent the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the course of professional practice.

North DakotaThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies meets the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in North Dakota.

PennsylvaniaThe Master of Physician Assistant Studies does not meet the basic state educational requirement for initial medical licensure by examination in  Pennsylvania.  Additional requirements by the state include:  (1) 3-hours of approved training by the Department of Human Services (DHS) on the topic of child abuse recognition and reporting, and (2) complete at least 4-hours of Board-approved education consisting of 2-hours in pain management or the identification of addiction and 2-hours in the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids.
