Undergraduate Communication Studies Programs

With a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, you will receive a solid foundation in basic communication skills while also gaining practical experience for a career in fields such as public relations, the print and digital news media, and the film industry.

Curriculum

What You’ll Learn

Courses in the Department of Communication and New Media offer a broad exposure to communication theories, media writing, legal and ethical issues in communications fields, and digital media equipment. Learning from professors with experience in the communications industry, you will develop critical thinking, interpersonal and written communication, teamwork, and other skills. To complete your degree and connect your education with a career, you will gain practical experience through an internship that provides public interaction through speaking, writing and digital media.

Available Programs

Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies

In addition to general education and prerequisite course requirements, Communication Studies majors must complete 39 hours of coursework, which includes 15 hours of department core classes and 24 hours focused on a specific concentration in Photography, Public Relations or Video and Film. To provide you with reality-based experience, an off-campus professional internship associated with your concentration is also required.

Minor in Communication Studies

Communication Studies minors must complete nine hours of department core requirements and nine additional hours of Communication Studies elective courses. An off-campus professional internship is also required.
