Designed and taught by Gardner-Webb faculty, this self-paced, online, start-anytime Medical Terminology course prepares those entering the medical field. Earn a Gardner-Webb certificate of completion for submitting assignments – no exam required (15 CE hours/ 1 credit hour). Transcript available upon request.

  1. Identify and define commonly used word components used in different medical specialties
  2. Identify and correctly spell the singular and plural forms of medical terms.
  3. Identify and correctly write the definitions for accepted medical abbreviations
  4. Identify and define the purpose for common medical tests and medical procedures
  5. Identify major symptoms of selected pathological conditions

What to Expect

This class is designed for students who have completed their bachelor’s degree who seek to expand their vocabulary of appropriate terminology for the health professions. Students will learn proper use, spelling, and pronunciation of terms. The course lays a foundation in building medical vocabulary through root words, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes and accepted abbreviations.

This is an online, self-paced, start anytime course that will be available beginning April 2025.
