category: Advisory Thanksgiving Break and COVID-19 Numbers By Gardner-Webb University On November 13, 2020 Campus COVID-19 Numbers As of Friday afternoon, November 13, Gardner-Webb has two confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in isolation on campus. We also have four residential undergraduate students who have tested positive and are in isolation at home. We have two commuter/graduate students who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in isolation at home. We have 30 residential undergraduate students in quarantine on campus and 11 residential undergraduate students in quarantine at home. We have four commuter graduate students in quarantine at home. We currently have one positive case of COVID-19 among our faculty in isolation at home. We have no (zero) staff members currently positive for COVID-19 in isolation at home. We have no (zero) staff members in quarantine waiting to be tested or waiting for test results. We cannot relax. We cannot let down our guard. Let’s commit to doing everything necessary to keep our campus and our community safe and healthy! Thanksgiving Break All faculty are expected to hold classes as normally scheduled through Tuesday, November 24. The University will then shift all face-to-face and hybrid courses online after the Thanksgiving break (November 25-27). Classes scheduled for November 30 through December 2 will therefore be online. No classes will be held in any format on December 3-4; instead, these will be designated Reading Days in preparation for final exams. Final exams will remain the week of December 7-11 but will shift to online using the same format that worked effectively this past Spring. Grades will be due December 12. A virtual Commencement will also be held on December 12. Students will not be required to move out of residence halls as a result of these changes. All residential facilities will remain open, and the cafeteria will continue serving meals without interruption. Winter Sports: Subject to NCAA guidance, athletic teams with scheduled competition and/or approved practices (e.g., men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, men’s and women’s swimming) will continue with those events as planned, presuming no COVID outbreaks that would justify any changes.
