Writing Center Introduction (15-20 minutes)

The Writing Center Introduction presentation introduces students to the Writing Center at Gardner-Webb. Topics include how to get the most out of a session and how to book an appointment. Our goal throughout this presentation is to help prepare students for using the resources that the Writing Center offers.

Citation/Documentation Workshop (30-50 minutes)

APA Documentation Workshop (30-50 Minutes)

The APA Documentation Workshop introduces students to the rationale behind citations and how to appropriately use them in APA format. Topics include integrating sources and avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing and direct quotations, in-text citations, and reference pages. To get the most out of this session, we encourage you to have an assignment or coursework that we can incorporate into the workshop. At your request, a tutor can stay and assist students after the presentation. This will give students the opportunity to practice APA citations with their course assignments.

Chicago/Turabian Documentation Workshop (30-50 Minutes)

The Chicago/Turabian Workshop introduces students to the rationale behind citations and how to appropriately use them in Chicago/Turabian format. Topics include integrating sources and avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing and direct quotations, in-text citations, and reference pages. To get the most out of this session, we encourage you to have an assignment or coursework that we can incorporate into the workshop. At your request, a tutor can stay and assist students. This will give students the opportunity to practice Chicago/Turabian Style citations with their course assignments.

MLA Documentation Workshop (30-50 Minutes)

The MLA Documentation Workshop introduces students to the rationale behind citations and how to appropriately use them in MLA format. Topics include integrating sources and avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing and direct quotations, in-text citations, and works cited pages. To get the most out of this session, we encourage you to have an assignment or coursework that we can incorporate into the workshop. At your request, a tutor can stay and assist students after the presentation. This will give students the opportunity to practice MLA citations with their course assignments.

Revision Strategies Workshop (50-75 minutes)

The Revision Strategies Workshop leads students in a discussion of editing versus revision and the importance of both as a part of the writing process. Topics include reasons for revision, methods for revision, and in-class activities that have students revise their own work. To get the most out of this session, we encourage you to have an assignment or coursework that we can incorporate into the workshop. You may then request for the tutor to stay and assist students. This gives students the opportunity to practice revising their own work with a tutor available for questions or feedback. Depending on your class time availability, this workshop can cover a full 75-minute class.

Peer Response Workshop (50-75 minutes)

The Peer Response Workshop prepares students for in-class peer reviews. Topics include reflecting on previous experiences with feedback, how to determine what feedback is helpful/not helpful, and an in-class demonstration of effective peer response. To get the most out of this session, we encourage you to have an assignment or coursework that we can incorporate into the workshop. You may then request for the tutor to stay and assist students. This gives students the opportunity to practice giving peer feedback with a tutor available for questions. Depending on your class time availability, this workshop can cover a full 75-minute class.
