The Leadership Academy

Igniting bold leaders for tomorrow begins today.

The Leadership Academy is a partnership between Gardner-Webb University and Isothermal Community College devoted to developing and enhancing leadership skills through training and exposure from top business leaders, behind-the-scenes tours with executives in several industries and enterprise sectors, and exercises and activities to strengthen the leader within each student.

Expectations

Students interested in developing leadership skills through this program should:

  • Be known as service-minded
  • Have foundational character traits of integrity, mutual regard for others, and commitment to follow through on responsibilities
  • Present a willingness to grow in thought, dialogue, and behavior by stepping outside of their natural comfort zone

Likewise, advisors and community leaders should be prepared to foster this type of environment and engagement.

To form a cohesive team dynamic and to honor the time of community leaders, advisors, and peers, all students are expected to attend all six sessions and to enter five minutes prior to the scheduled time, which will ensure the sessions begin on time.

Components

The Leadership Academy is a 12-week program that meets bi-weekly on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and includes students from Gardner-Webb University and Isothermal Community College. Transportation to and from the institution is provided by the College’s advisor. Sessions generally include the following:

  • Exploring personality traits and leadership principles
