Scholarships from Sources Outside Gardner-Webb University

Outside scholarship opportunities are administered by entities other than Gardner-Webb University. In addition to GWU Scholarships, many organizations offer scholarships for students pursuing higher education and Gardner-Webb University strongly encourages students to apply for such assistance. All outside scholarships must be reported to GWU’s Office of Financial Planning.

Where Can I Find Outside Scholarships?

Students have the most success receiving outside scholarships from organizations they already know. We recommend you start your search by finding out what scholarships may be offered by:

  • Your high school
  • Clubs or organizations where you are a member
  • Your current employer or that of your parent(s)
  • Other local opportunities in your area

Identity Theft and Scam Warning Signs

Before you begin searching/applying for scholarships, protect yourself by knowing how to identify scams. Only apply through reputable sites/organizations. Carefully review the terms and conditions of each opportunity before completing the applications and giving out any personal information.

Here are some tips for avoiding scholarship scams:

  • Never give out your SSN number or other highly sensitive personal information
  • Never provide credit card or bank account information
  • Never pay to apply for a scholarship or to gain access to a scholarship database. Don’t believe in a money-back guarantee or the promise of a scholarship. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Did you receive an outside scholarship?

Complete the form below to make sure the scholarship you earned is posted directly to your student account. Please send a copy of the letter from the scholarship organization and/or the check which confirms the amount and terms of your scholarship. Student Accounts may not be able to credit your account until the letter or check is received.  If the check is never received by Student Accounts, you will be responsible for any remaining balance.

Mailing Scholarship Checks

Outside organizations that are providing scholarships to Gardner-Webb students should send checks to the address below. The scholarship check should be made payable to Gardner-Webb University and should have the recipient’s name and Banner ID in the “For” column of the check.
