Malik Stewart

Dedicated Bulldog

Parksley, VA

In one word, Malik Stewart, ’21, described GWU as “invigorating.” This Dedicated Bulldog had big dreams to attend Georgetown University after graduation, and thanks to his hard work and encouraging faculty at Gardner-Webb, it was all made possible. At Gardner-Webb, he was a double major in Biology (Biomedical Sciences) and Chemistry while also part of the Cheerleading team, HSA (Honors Student Association), and LEAP (Learning, Enrichment and Assistance Program) tutoring.

“Before coming to GWU, I felt that I was lacking in some skills. I didn’t think that I was going to be successful enough to get into a university as prestigious as Georgetown,” Malik shared. “Now I can confidently say that I am sure that I will be a great scientist.”

Malik was not only dedicated in his studies but also in his connections he made while living on campus. He said, “One of the most influential aspects on my college experience was being able to walk around campus and have the ability to have a conversation with anyone.”

Gardner-Webb’s close-knit campus drew him in. He said that while visiting campus, “I remember my tour guide passing other students and everyone knew who she was. Seeing this made Gardner-Webb seem more like a home than a college.”

The greatest piece of advice Malik says he has to offer is that you should always set extremely high, yet realistic goals for yourself, especially when it comes to considering graduate school. “The love of a specific field that a student has will become evident through a [graduate school] application, even if an interview is not required.” The passion you have for a subject or career field will prove your dedication to getting there.

You can find your home here at GWU like Malik did. Are you ready to become a Runnin’ Bulldog?
