Accessing the Campus Computer Network

Windows Users

If you are planning to bring a Windows computer to campus, you will be required to use anti-virus software for your system and have all the current Windows updates installed. Doing these at home will help ease your transition onto the Gardner-Webb network.

Gardner-Webb offers free Forticlient anti-virus protection for all students, faculty and staff. If you currently are using a trial version of anti-virus software that came with a new computer or opt to download Gardner-Webb’s provided protection uninstall your current software before coming to campus. If you are having issues installing the Forticlient anti-virus software, contact Technology Services at (704) 406-4647 for assistance.

Students wishing to use their own protection software must have their virus definitions up to date before coming to campus to ensure you can log-in to the network.

Apple/Mac Users

If you are planning to bring an Apple computer to campus, you will not be required to have anti-virus software, but you will need to have all Mac OS system updates installed.

Student & Employee PC Purchase Program

Gardner-Webb University has established a personal computer purchasing program with two of the leading computer companies, Dell and Apple. Gardner-Webb students and employees are eligible to purchase computers and other computer equipment (such as printers, ipods, and accessories) directly from these companies.

The university does not order equipment for individuals; representatives of the university have simply established relationships with these companies to offer you more purchasing power.

Student & Employee Software Purchase Program

Employees and students of Gardner-Webb University have a chance to acquire some of education’s most popular products for personal use at deep discounts. The University has arranged an agreement with these vendors to make these discounts available to the entire employee and student population. These discount levels are similar to those that the University receives through its volume license programs.

Our Microsoft and Adobe Reseller, VarsityBuys, has a website dedicated to this program where employees and students can purchase online. Below are several examples of the promotional prices and savings.
