The Gardner-Webb University Department of English offers a fun, supportive learning community with multiple opportunities to connect and share with your classmates and teachers.

Our department has a history of activities including annual kickball games, pizza and quiz bowl parties, ice cream socials, and poetry readings at the local coffee shop. Our low student/teacher ratio (4-to-1) means that students will get one-on-one attention. The English Department’s faculty is a diverse and interesting group.

A degree in English is a great foundation for a wide range of careers, including education, business, publishing, ministry, and much more. Gardner-Webb offers five different concentrations for the English BA and three for the English MA. Our alumni have pursued careers in diverse fields such as communications, business, education, law, and publishing, where they find work in editing, public relations, counseling, journalism, management, marketing, research, writing, and numerous related options.
