The University Orchestra (MUSC 386) is comprised of a full complement of strings, full winds and brass and percussion.
Numbering approximately 60-80 musicians depending upon repertoire, the orchestraperforms several concerts per year, and also functions as Cleveland County’s mainregional orchestra.
The orchestra is comprised primarily of GWU students but also welcomes members ofthe community. Orchestra enrollment is by audition only, though strings may join without audition. The University Orchestra is a full member of the League of AmericanOrchestras and the Association of Symphony Orchestras of North Carolina.
The orchestra performs concerts on and off campus in support of community relationsand music education enrichment and hosts a festival for local area high school andmiddle school string students.
